Adventure Time, Expat Life

The Damaniyat Islands

April 30, 2015

This wasn’t one of my average week days.

No dashing around town with a list of errands, the laundry pile went unwashed and gym class was ditched. There was an adventure waiting for us.

There was a good reason for this skivey weekday, sadly our good friends are leaving us behind and moving on to pastures new. *Sob* For one last farewell shindig he arranged a swanky yacht trip taking a nice group of us to the magnificent Daymaniyat Islands.

The prospect of a day with great people on a yacht outweighed any chores. The Damaniyat Islands are probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever been in my life and I was excited to visit again. With unspoilt white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters and more exotic marine life than you can shake a stick at. Paradise.

Motoring out of the marina and into open water the sails were hoisted and the fishing lines were cast. It wasn’t long until we got the first bite on the line. My first ever catch! This barracuda was an impressive first catch too, He was a feisty rascal and didn’t want to give up without a fight. Thankfully the Captain did all the scary bits that involved going near teeth..

After the first barracuda catch it was soon followed by two more bites on the line. These were black fin tuna, smaller than the barracuda but still exciting for me.

The ever helpful Captain Abdullah whisked the fresh fish off with a sharp knife to prep lunch. He made light work of descaling and gutting the fish.

Arriving at the Damaniyat Islands is as breath taking as ever. The crystal clear waters never fail to amaze me.

After a good swim the Captain called us back on board for lunch. The fish that we caught just an hour before was served for us. It doesn’t get much fresher than that!

After lunch it was time to get on the fins and snorkels and explore the coral below.

Everywhere we went the adventure drone was in the air capturing our moves.

Out on the water the hours just melt away. With the fresh sea air it makes a very welcome temperature change from the city.

With salty skin, a belly full of fish and great memories it was time to head home after a perfect day.

Bryce, you are crazy and loud but you are hilariously funny and you have a heart of gold. We will miss you and Svet! Until we all meet again, hopefully in Canada next time 😉

Have you been to the Damaniyats?

Ayshe, we should do a blogger boating trip 🙂 that would be so cool!

Unfortunately the drone isn’t mine but agreed, it was awesome. I loved seeing the islands from above for a change.
