May 2015 favourites

May 31, 2015

Tomorrow is the 1st of June, how is this year flying by so quickly? But you know that a new month means a new favourites post, yeeehaaa!

I’m feeling pretty proud of myself to have my monthly favourites post up on time for a change, high five to me!

So here we go, Below are my top 5 things that I have been loving in May 2015. There is a Movie, a TV programme, Gym class, an App and a Book – Can you tell that the heat is keeping me indoors? 😛

1- ‘Prison Break’ TV Show
Prison Break faves

Ok, Ok, I know that I really am literally years behind the times but I finally started to watch Prison Break and LOVED it!! If you read my April faves post I told you that I really love programmes along the crime/thriller genre so I got some new suggestions for shows to watch and Prison Break came up a couple of times.
The show started 11 years old now but it’s still a goodie! I don’t need to explain what happens in it, I’m sure you get it from the title, haha.

Colin had been working away from home most of the month which worked out well so I had the sofa and the TV all to myself allowing me to binge watch an unhealthy number of episodes.

2- ‘San Andreas’ Movie

San Andreas Movie

This month I went to the cinema twice. That really doesn’t sound crazy to most but when you have a hyper toddler who always wants ‘Mama’ going to the cinema is like a huge guilty pleasure. And yes I went TWICE!

The first movie I watched was ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ which was great but soon overshaddowed by the epic San Andreas earthquake movie. It maybe isn’t to everyones taste and there were a few cheesy lines but it kept me gripped the whole way through with plenty of tense moments. Also a very good excuse for date night with the other half.

If you are a fan of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnston, and c’mon who isn’t?!, you might be interested to read this article on his diet and how he maintains that body, The Rock diet.

3- ‘Guilty Wives’ Book
01 May faves book

This month I’m back into reading again, my favourite book of the month is called ‘Guilty Wives’ by the author James Patterson. Most of the books I’ve started recently haven’t gripped me so I was delighted to get engrossed in a good book again and chill out.
I had never paid any attention to James Paterson books in the shop before but it seems like most of my friends are huge fans of his? I’ll definitely be on look out for more of his work.

4- TRX classes

01 TRX trainers

Apologies that I don’t have any photos of TRX class but I’m usually sweating blob lying on the floor afterwards, but I guess that is a good thing it shows I’m working, so here is a picture of my leggies instead to represent fitness and awesome sneakers.

With my summer holidays fast approaching I have been trying to amp up my fitness regime a bit more so I joined a new class called TRX. A few friends had previously recommended it but I had been happy with my usual gym until recently so I took them up on their recomedation and tried the TRX for myself. Oh holy cow, it is insanely hard! You are using your own body weight and gravity to give your body an awesome, hard core all over work out. I thought my overall fitness was pretty good until I tried this.. I have a looooong way to go.

You can find the classes at Rev GX fitness.

5- ‘My Fitness Pal’ App

image1 (1)

I’m not much of a gadget or technology freak so I have never recommended an app in my favourites post. So here is a new one for you! I’m pretty sure that it has been on the go for years but I’ve only had the app ‘My Fitness Pal’ for a few days now but already I love it.

So I enter the usual height, weight activity level etc. and then I log all my food intake and exercise completed and it calculates how many calories I should have in a day. Then it also breaks it down into macronutrients so I know exactly the amount of fats, carbs and proteins I should be eating and when I go way over on the carbs.

For example, I don’t have a clue how much fat or carbs is in a 6″ Subway but this app can tell me exactly what is in my lunch even using brands like McDonalds and Starbucks. This is a big wake up call for a food addict like me.

—————————————————————————————————————

In June I will be travelling to the UK so I’m super excited to see what my favourites for next month will be. Possibly all food related as I will be indulging in all those missed home comforts.

If you have any favourite TV shows, beauty products, activities, foods or random things I would love to hear your suggestions! 🙂

April 2015 Favourites

May 6, 2015

The month of April has been and gone and that only means one thing, a new monthly favourites post! I’m a few days late uploading this one and we are into May already, it has been a hard week around here with a teething toddler!

Below are my top 5 things that I have been loving in April 2015. They are a little random with a TV show, a song, a drink, a girly product and some media love. Hopefully you enjoy the variety this month.

**As always, I haven’t been paid or asked to promote anything to you, this doesn’t include any baby items and they are in no particular order**

Sit down, get comfy and lets begin;

1- ‘The Fall’ TV Programme
The Fall cover 2

My biggest obsession of the month by far was a TV programme called ‘The Fall’. I literally could not stop watching it.
It is a British drama staring Jamie Dornan (50 Shades of Gray) who plays a serial killer and Gillian Anderson (X-Files) is the police detective who has to find the killer before he strikes again. It was dark, twisted and addictive! Definitely worth watching!
All my favourite shows and movies just now are all crime thrillers so it’s no surprise that The Fall appealed to me and I binged both season 1 & 2 in 10 days.

2- Peppermint Tea
01 drinking peppermint tea

Ok, I know this sounds a little bit lame why I would put peppermint tea in a favourites post but there is a good reason – I’m a total caffeine addict. The problem is that every time I have a cup of tea I’m in the naughty habit to have something sweet along with it. If I switch to peppermint tea I don’t have the same caffeine intake and chocolate biscuits don’t taste good dunked in a peppermint tea, so less caffeine and less calories. Hoorah!

3- Likes on Facebook & Instagram
FB likes

I have been in a bit of a funk recently, after some annoying comments and lack of blog inspiration and opportunities I questioned whether I should just shut all my media pages down and just call it a day. But then something fantastic happened and my creative side sprung back to life, thanks to you guys! April saw my Facebook page reach 5,000 likes and over 600 Instagram followers and I’m feeling the love again! You guys are awesome!
Since then I have dusted off my camera and got out and about to keep bringing you the blog content that you enjoy. Thank you to you all for your support and giving me to motivation to keep seeking out new adventures!

4- Favourite song
Lost Frequencies

The one song that I’m loving right now is a song called “Are you with me” by Lost Frequencies. After hearing it on MTV it has been a firm favourite on my play list ever since.
You can listen to it here on You Tube – Lost Frequencies. I’ll warn you now, It’s catchy!

5- Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer
IMG_5686

When the days are so hot and humid that make up literally slides down your face this product is my saviour – This is Double Wear concealer from Estee Lauder. For day to day wear in the summer I have mostly given up on foundation as it doesn’t last long in the humidity. This product stops me looking like an extra from The Walking Dead and covers the blemishes and dark circles without being too cakey.
I use the shade 01 light because I’m ghostly pale. This is a summer must have, ladies.

And that’s it, April in a nutshell! I’m looking forward to seeing what the next month brings and what I will be addicted to next.

What are your favourite things from the month gone by? I would love to hear from you!

March 2015 Favourites

March 31, 2015

*I know that I say this every month but I can’t believe it, another month has crept up on me already. They do say that time flies when you are having fun?!

March has been crazy and hectic so I don’t have any new TV programmes or books to recommend to you, any time I sit down for long enough I seem to fall asleep.

**As always this list doesn’t include baby items, I haven’t been paid to recommend anything to you and they are in no particular order **

So here we go, my own personal favourite things in March 2015;

1- Sunset & Silhouettes

01 PDO sunset

This was just an impromptu sunset silhouette taken on an iPhone 5.  For something taken quickly on an iPhone I think it looks great. It makes me think of being calm and serene and in a “happy place”.

It has been featured in the Times of Oman’s top 10 pictures of the month. Some of the photos shown are beautiful so I’m pretty proud to be included in that. Click here to see it.

2- Mother’s Day Card

01 Mothers Day Card

This is something that totally melted my heart.

Spencer made me my very first Mothers Day card at nursery class. I’m pretty sure at 14 months he wasn’t the creative genius behind it but the sentiment meant the world and I had a tear in my eye when he gave it to me.

This is definitely one for the memory box.

3- Forever Living Bee Pollen

01 Bee Pollen

Life can get pretty hectic at times leaving me feeling drained, busy lives and chasing toddlers is exhausting.

Recently I found something natural and wonderful to get me through that mid afternoon slump where I either reach for a chocolate bar or try and crawl into bed for a sneaky nap. Originally I bought this Colin’s for hay fever and allergies but I found that it really has worked for me and I would highly recommend to others.

You can read the benefits of bee pollen here.

In Muscat you can find the Facebook page here or call/text Judith on (+968) 9563 5393

4- Pastels and Shiney Things

01 Bling and Pastels

Recently I’m drawn to everything pastel coloured, from the baby blue Shellac on my nails to my new peach blouse – I just love it. It feels so summery and girly and who can be grumpy in pastels?

And what goes better with pastel colours?! Shiney things of course!

5- Nike Free Run 5.0 sneakers

01 Nike free run

These little beauties are my naughty splurge of the month.

Okay, So they were a tad pricey (like real pricey, the Middle East is so expensive) but it’s important to have good running shoes isn’t it? I’m telling myself that anyway.

The hope is that if I love them this much then I might wear them and go to work out more. Well, that’s the plan anyway.

February 2015 Favourites

March 3, 2015

I’m looking at the calendar in disbelief that it is March already, this year is flying by already!

Here is a round up of my top favourite things from the month of February. As always, these are my personal favourites and nothing has been sponsored or influenced. And because this is for grown ups, none of it includes baby stuff.

1- Ed Sheeran concert

An Instagram shot from the man himself

An Instagram shot from the man himself

The Ed Sheeran gig was certainly the biggest and most exciting thing to happen in Oman in a long time. Fresh off the plane from winning two Brit awards it was amazing to see such a big act in Oman.

This is one of my favourite things from February because of the fun atmosphere and a great night with friends – not even the mini hurricane could stop that party!

2- The book ‘Before I go to sleep’

01 Feb fave books

This little treasure was found in the Dar Al Atta bookshop. The film, staring Nicole Kidman, was already on my list of things to watch so when I saw the book hiding at the back of the shelf I grabbed I straight away.

The story was intriguing and gripping – watch out for the twist near the end. I didn’t see that one coming! I’m looking forward to watching the film to see how Nicole Kidman brings the character to life.

(You can find the Dar Al Atta charity bookshop in the Qurum CCC where most books are just 1 rial)

3- ‘How to get away with murder’ – TV programme

How to get away with murder TV

This new dark and twisted show is created by the brilliant mind of Shonda Rhimes, who also created ‘Scandal’ and ‘Greys Anatomy’.

I started watching this HTGAWM a few weeks ago and have been hooked ever since. It’s a thinker, it gives you hints and just when you think you are one step ahead of the game then BAM it’s shocked you all over again. I am just a couple of episodes from the season finale, I can’t wait to see what happens!

If you are a fan of this show and Scandal I would love to hear what other programmes you enjoy, maybe you can recommend some things to me.

4- Sandstock & Camel selfies

Sanstock camel selfie

If you didn’t read about Sandstock yet then where have you been?! It was the secret concert in the desert and the most fun I’ve had in a long time – Click here to read about it. With camping, bonfires, rolling about in the sand and searching for camels it was just one of those unplanned, random weekends that are the most fun and leave lasting memories.

Trying to take a selfie with my new camel friend, Jeff, was a little tricky as he was keen on swapping saliva.

5- Gym time

01 noodle arms

In February I renewed my gym membership and started to take more time for myself. My ‘baby’ has just turned one year old and I don’t have any excuse for still carrying the baby weight **sigh**
So I’m back to it, working out and staying active.

Not only is it good to loose a bit of timber, physically it is good to stay limber and flexible. For me, I also enjoy working out for the mental health benefits and to have a bit more body confidence. So far I am really enjoying it and like going to the classes for that extra push from a trainer.

Now I just need to work on the guns so they look a little less like pasty white noodles..

November Favourites

December 3, 2014

As November has packed up and sauntered off for another year I wanted to recap my top 5 favourite things from the month gone by before we get all festive for December.

You maybe noticed that I did a favourite post for September but then skipped October, life got a little too busy and combined with atrocious internet (Omantel, you suck!) I just gave up trying.. But here I am back for November and ready to try again so lets dive straight in;

1- New Website

Blog cover

At the start of November I launched the brand spanking new Duncan Adventures website. We are now officially a dot com!

The web design and complicated bits were all done by the fantastic Terence Pereira. You can check out his page here..

I would love to hear what you think of the new site!

2- ‘Gone Girl’ book

01 Gone Girl book

After a long day with an active baby I love to take some time to relax and get lost in a good book. ‘Gone Girl’ written by Gillian Flynn was the perfect book to throw myself into. With mystery and suspense I couldn’t put it down, I was desperate to know how it ended. Especially after THAT twist in the story, I didn’t see that coming!

The movie, starring Ben Affleck, was released just as I was finishing the final few pages so I raced to the end of the book before I could watch it on the big screen. The movie was great but the book still trumps it, usually they always do.

3- Winter Weather

6 Penny shake

It was an incredibly long and hot summer here in Muscat so with the winter weather well and truly here we are planning to make the most of it. No longer are we confined to the house running the air conditioning all day, every day. We can step outside without our eyeballs burning and sweating like a running tap. Night thought, eh?

For the next few months at least we can play in the garden, take walks with the pram, BBQ outside and visit the beach. Ok, so it’s still about 30 degrees mid day but I’ll take that over 50 degrees any day!

Hurray for winter weather!

4- ‘Wood Winked’ MAC eye shadow

01 MAC eyeshaddow

This month my make up treat was a beautiful little eye shadow pot from MAC. Lets be honest, You can’t really go wrong with MAC.

This little gem in the shade “Wood Winked” is a perfect blend of copper, brown and bronze together which is especially flattering on blue and brown eyes. This shadow can be used lightly for a subtle day time look or can be incorporated into an evening Smokey eye look.

Wood Winked really helps my blue eyes to “pop” – I have worn it every single day for two weeks now!

5- National Day

National Day 1

On the 18th November Oman celebrated it’s 44th National Day. The whole country joined together to celebrate the occassion by decorating their cars, houses, attending events and dancing in the streets. It is a really beautiful thing to see how much the Omani people love and respect their Sultan.

I dressed Spencer in an Omani shirt by Razza Fashion (You can find these at TOTEM) and the owner Dr Sami uploaded the picture to both of his Instagram accounts where Spencer got over 3,000 likes. Very impressive!

National Day is a great occasion for both locals and Expats to join together and celebrate His Majesty and the wonderful country we live in.

So that is the round up of November, December is upon us which means my birthday this week and getting all festive in preparation for Spencer’s first Christmas – I cannot wait!!! 🙂
